family cookingWhen you’re first learning to cook, one-pot meals will be your culinary best friend. With a little preparation and a few simple ingredients, you can create delicious dishes using basic cooking techniques that any beginner can master. Try this recipe, created by Real Simple magazine, for five-star chicken and pepper fajitas:

The ingredients:
8 ounces of chicken cutlets, cut into 2-inch strips
2 bell peppers, sliced
1 medium onion, sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
8 flour tortillas
salt and pepper
sour cream, salsa, sliced avocado and lime wedges, for garnish

Preparation:
After you’ve cut up your ingredients, heat one tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle cumin and ½ a teaspoon each of salt and pepper onto the chicken and place in the skillet along with the chopped garlic. Turn occasionally until it is cooked through, which should take between four and six minutes. Place the chicken on a plate, then heat the other tablespoon of oil in the pan. Add the onion and peppers and cook until tender, which should take between six and eight minutes. Put the chicken back in the pan, and stir to combine all the components. Pour it onto a platter, serve with tortillas and allow your guests to customize their fajitas with their favorite garnishes
