How To Cook Brown Rice

Brown Rice Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup of raw brown rice
1 & 3/4 cup stock of choice or water
1 Tbsp. butter or oil
Garnish of chopped sweet peppers and sliced scallions

Procedure
1. Combine rice, water and butter (optional) in a pot, and bring to a boil
2. Cover with tight fitting lid, reduce heat to a low simmer
3. Cook 45 minutes
4. Remove from heat with lid on, and let steam for 10 minutes.
5. With a fork fluff rice.

If rice is crunchy at the end of the cooking time, it may be necessary to add 1-2 tbsp liquid and cook longer.

  1. Is it necessary to wash the brown rice first, then add water and let the rice sit in it for an hour. Then drain the rice, add the broth then cook. Does this make the rice more fluffier?
