How To Make French Toast Breakfast Casserole
Looking for a new way to start your morning? Turn an ordinary day into a special event or save this recipe for a holiday brunch. Take a twist on traditional French toast with a French toast casserole. This recipe is easy to make and is a great way to utilize leftover bread that may be going stale. Simply fill a pan with slices of bread, and then combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs and milk in a bowl. Once the liquid is completely combined, pour it over the bread in a baking dish and allow the casserole to rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or even over night. After the casserole has been baked, you can serve it with powdered sugar, syrup or whipped cream with some fruit. French Toast Breakfast Casserole Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 loaf French bread
6 whole eggs
2 cups half and half
¾ cup sugar
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Cinnamon sugar
Powdered Sugar
Fresh Raspberries
Method:
1. Slice French bread about ¾ inch thick. Arrange in a greased 8 X 8 pan
2. In a bowl combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the eggs and mix until well incorporated
3. Add the half and half and mix until well incorporated
4. Pour mixture over the bread arranged in the pan and refrigerate for 30 minutes allowing the mixture to soak into the bread
5. Bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes until the casserole is well set and a knife inserted comes out clean. Let stand for 7 minutes
6. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar and raspberries and serve. Can also be served plated with caramel sauce
