How To Choose The Perfect Watermelon

It wouldn’t be summer without slicing up a sweet, refreshing watermelon to snack on while you attend barbecues with friends or go on picnics with your family. Whether you prefer to eat it off the rind, with a fork or in a fruit salad, this colorful melon is perfect for battling the summer heat while filling your belly without that “too-full” feeling. For as many people as there are that love to munch on watermelon, there are almost as many who don’t know how to confidently select a ripe one from the grocery store or farmers market. As a result, you get many people thumping the rinds, lifting the melons up and down, and generally looking puzzled before shrugging their shoulders and placing one in their basket.

Look: First, select a watermelon that is perfectly rounded and smooth. Any irregularities will indicate that it went through periods of time with inadequate sun or water and will affect the flavor. Also, look for a nice yellow field spot. The deeper the color, the longer it was allowed to ripen on the vine. Vine-ripened watermelons tend to be sweeter than ones picked too early.

Feel: When you lift the watermelon, it should seem heavy for its size.

Listen: Give the watermelon a good thump like you are knocking on a door. A resonant, hollow sound indicates a ripe watermelon. Dull sounding melons are either under- or overripe.

Howdy fantastic website! Does running a blog such as this require a massive amount
work? I have very little understanding of coding but I was hoping to
start my own blog in the near future. Anyway, if you have
any suggestions or tips for new blog owners please share.
I know this is off subject however I simply needed to ask.
    Appreciate it!
