Yams are similar to (but not the same thing as) sweet potatoes and can be prepared in a number of different ways. Yams can be incorporated into numerous dishes or stand as a side dish all on their own. The sweet, nutritious tuber can be peeled and boiled in water. Once the yams are tender, add orange juice, zest and maple syrup to a pot to simmer. Once the mixture comes to a light boil, add the yams to the liquid and allow them to cook for a few minutes to absorb the flavors. This extremely simple way to prepare yams can be done in a matter of minutes while still adding a great flavor palate. Yams can be roasted, fired, baked and grilled so play with different ways of enjoying this wonderful root vegetable. In this video, Chef Mark gives an online cooking lesson on how to make perfectly prepared yams for your holiday meal. For more great cooking demonstration videos, subscribe to the LearnToCookOnline YouTube channel.
