Simply perfect pumpkin pie
The changing of your neighborhood scenery from foliage to barren branches, the crunching leaves underfoot as you stroll your way home, the shorter daylight hours…whatever it is that catches your attention, it’s impossible to deny that autumn is officially here. Whether the coming of colder weather excites you or makes you seriously consider booking a one way ticket to a warmer climate, it’s hard to not get excited about the phenomenal food offerings that come with it. There’s an absolute plethora of drinks, dishes and desserts that utilize the sweet seasonings so particular to autumn, but no singular food item encapsulates the meaning of the season quite as well as pumpkin pie. While everyone and their mother (literally) seem to have their own special way of making this timeless dessert, this classic recipe is sure to satisfy whoever you’re cooking for in autumn. It’s also a great way for students taking baking courses online to practice at home! Here’s what you’ll need:
1 pre-prepared 9″ pie crust (homemade or store bought)
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
¾ cup whole milk
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 pinch nutmeg
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
3 tablespoons maple syrup
⅓ cup granulated sugar
2 cups pure pumpkin pack
Directions:
-Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
-(Optional) Warm the pre-prepared pie crust in either your oven or a toaster oven for several minutes. Aim to have the exterior of the crust flaky and golden brown while keeping the interior somewhat doughy.
-Mix all other ingredients into a large bowl. Stir the mix with a wooden spoon until it becomes homogenous and smooth.
-Once mixed, pour the ingredients into your pie crust and bake for 45 minutes to an hour. To test for completion, gently insert a knife into the middle of the pie. If it comes out clean, the pie is ready.
-Serve hot or cold and enjoy!
