Kitchen Essentials For Every Chef

Learning to cook is an exciting endeavor and opens a world of delectable creations for you and your family to enjoy. Chances are you took a stroll down the kitchen goods aisle at your favorite department or home improvement store to pick up a few new things to help you out as you learn how to cook online. With all the electronic gadgets, specialized utensils and cookware made from a variety of materials, though, it can be overwhelming to try and sort out what you absolutely need and what you don’t.

While there are definitely some tools that you can do without, there are a handful that are kitchen essentials, whether you’re an expert chef or just getting started.

Digital scale
One of the most overlooked kitchen gadgets is a digital kitchen scale. Some recipes, especially when you are baking, require precise measurements in order for the dish to turn out as planned. Using a digital scale will take the guesswork out of deciding how much chicken is the equivalent of 6 ounces.

High-quality knives
With all the slicing, dicing and chopping involved with cooking, a good set of knives can really make or break your experience – plus they’re a lot safer! You don’t have to spend a fortune on knives, either. As long as you look for products made with high-quality materials and take care of them, your set could last you a lifetime.

Meat thermometer
While most people only remember to pull out their thermometers at Thanksgiving to see if their turkey is cooked, you should really use a meat thermometer on a regular basis. According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services:

  • Raw beef, pork, lamb and veal steaks, chops and roasts should be cooked to at least a minimum internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Raw ground beef, pork, lamb and veal should reach an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Raw poultry should reach at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
