How To Cook Black Beans

Beans are a great source of fiber and protein and are often a used as a substitute for meat because of their nutritional value and ability to satisfy a strong appetite. If you are using dry beans, be sure to soak the beans for at least an hour, or overnight. Then cook the beans until they are tender. Once the beans are ready, you can begin to sauté chopped green pepper and onion in olive oil, adding in some cumin, oregano, bay leaves and minced garlic for a robust flavor. Add the black beans to the pot along with some white wine and water allowing the flavors to boil down. Add chopped pimentos or chili peppers before serving black beans as a Tex-Mex side dish. In this video, Chef Mark provides an online cooking lesson for making protein packed black beans. For more great cooking demonstration videos, subscribe to the LearnToCookOnline YouTube channel.
