How To Make Strawberry Shortcake
Prepare your sliced, fresh strawberries by adding some granulated sugar and allowing them to rest in the refrigerator to become a little bit juicier. You can make shortcake using Bisquick for a more biscuit-like cake, or use a boxed yellow cake mix for a more familiar flavor. When the cake of your choice is ready, you can split the cake in half and begin assembling the dessert. Layer some strawberries on top of the bottom layer of cake and top them with whipped cream. Place the second layer of cake on top and finish off the cake with some more whipped cream and strawberries, or dust with powdered sugar. Strawberry Shortcake Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 pints fresh strawberries
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 pan of baked yellow cake
2 cups heavy whipping cream
¼ cup sugar
Powdered sugar for dusting
Directions:
1. Prepare the whip cream: Wisk the heavy whipping cream and ¼ cup of sugar together until thick using a mixer or by hand. Spoon into a pastry bag and refrigerate until ready to use.
2. Take the tops off of the strawberries and wash, slice in ½ and place in a bowl. Sprinkle the 2 Tablespoons of sugar on the strawberries, mix and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
3. Cut circles with a cutter out of the yellow cake and slice in half. Put the buttom circle on the plate and spoon the strawberry mixture over ½ and pipe whip cream on the other ½. Place the top of the cake on top of the cream on and angle. Dust the top with powdered sugar and serve.
*Canned whip cream can be used instead of making fresh whip cream.
