Use a large Spanish onion to create the meat of the rings. Simply slice the onion parallel to the root, and then separate the layers. Soak the rings in a buttermilk mixture for about an hour and then dredge them in flour. Transfer the rings into an egg wash and then, finally, into breadcrumbs. You can season the flour with some spices or trade the buttermilk for beer to give the onion rings a unique flavor. When all of the onion rings are prepared, fry them in a deep pot of hot oil. Be very careful when frying at your home. Hot oil is very dangerous and can burn your skin if you splash the rings into the oil. When the rings reach a golden brown color, remove them from the oil and allow them to drain on a towel before serving. In this video, Chef Mark gives an online cooking lesson on how to cook perfectly crisp onion rings. For more great cooking demonstration videos, subscribe to the LearnToCookOnline YouTube channel.
