How To Make Homemade Ice Cream

You don’t have to hop in the car and head down to the local ice cream shop to satisfy an ice cream craving. Although it may seem like it would be complicated, you can easily make ice cream in the comfort of your own home. You don’t even need an ice cream maker to create some frozen treats for you and your family to enjoy. To make ice cream, prepare the ice cream ingredients then chill them over an ice bath. Pour the mixture into a chilled deep, durable baking dish or bowl and store in the freezer for about 45 minutes. As the mixture starts to freeze, vigorously mix the contents of the dish and return to the freezer, continually checking and stirring every 30 minutes. After three hours, the ice cream should be firm enough to serve. Making your own ice cream means you area able to bring to life any flavor you can conjure up. Blend sophisticated flavors like cherry and bourbon or use the abundance of seasonal fruits that are on sale to create a creamy treat you can enjoy by the spoonful. In this video, Chef Susie will show you how to make luscious homemade ice cream. Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe:

1 cup sugar
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla
6 egg yolks
3 cups cream
2 cups milk

1. Whisk the egg yolks, sugar and vanilla until well incorporated
2. Warm the cream and milk. Pour the cream and milk into the bowl with the egg yolk mixture and whisk together. Return to the pot and bring and simmer
3. Cool the mixture. Place in an ice cream maker and churn for about 20 minutes
4. Place in a container, cover and freeze
